Dmitry Klokov, the son of world champion weightlifter Vyacheslav Klokov, followed his father into the sport, becoming one of the world’s best in the 105-kg weight class. He won the 2005 World Championship snatching 192 kg (423 lb) and clean and jerking 227 kg (500 lb). He earned a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and was European Champion in 2010. He also placed in the top three in the World Championships on four other occasions.
Klokov is now retired as a competitive weightlifter, but has followed other pursuits traveling the globe as a sports ambassador giving seminars and putting on events related to weightlifting and training. He once appeared on Russian television as part of a reality diving show. Even at less than his peak competitive form, Klokov is considered the strongest man in the NPGL for his rookie 2015 season. He and his wife, Elena, have a daughter named Anastasia. Social media has made Klokov into a worldwide celebrity in the fitness world, he has more than 155,000 followers on Instagram.
